Computed Tomography

Computed tomography (CT) scan is a noninvasive imaging technique that utilizes specialized X-rays that show cross-sectional images of a specific area in the body. When a CT scan is taken, the machine rotates around the body and sends images to a computer, where they can be reviewed by a technician.

Electroencephalogram

Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a noninvasive test that is used to detect electrical activity in the brain. This process is done by using small, flat electrodes that attach to the scalp. This allows for our medical providers to assess the brain activity within the human body.

Neurologists rely heavily on EEG’s for diagnostic testing for Epilepsy patients, as well as other brain disorders, including:

  • Brain activity during a coma
  • Brain tumors
  • Certain forms of brain dysfunction
  • Dementia
  • Epilepsy or other seizure disorder
  • Brain/head injury
  • Inflammation of the brain (encephalitis)
  • Sleep disorders
  • Stroke

Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive imaging technique that works by creating a magnetic field and utilizes radio waves to generate high-resolution detailed internal images of the human body. The images the MRI produces can also be 3 dimensional and can be viewed from many different angles.

Neurocritical Care

Neurocritical care is medical care for critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients, including stroke, brain hemorrhage, trauma, and tumors. Our specially trained teams and critical care units provide our patients with the care needed to recover.

Our provision of Neurocritical care is designed specifically to address the clinical needs of our critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients and improve their outcomes. Our Center is equipped with advanced invasive monitoring and treatment techniques, including:

  • Intracranial Pressure Monitoring
  • Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography
  • Continuous Electroencephalographic (EEG) Monitoring

North Shore Medical Center is a proud member of The Advanced Neuroscience Network (ANN). ANN is an integrated delivery system of medical professionals and hospitals focused on offering a full continuum of neurological care throughout South Florida.
