As a multidisciplinary team, our oncology specialist work together to develop individualized treatment plans for each patent.  We ensure that referring physicians and other cancer care specialist are involved in the patient’s care during and after radiation therapy treatments.

The Radiation Oncology Team includes:

Support staff specially trained in cancer care including social workers, nutritionist, rehabilitation specialist, and medical interpreters

External beam radiation therapy (EBT)
EBT is a method for delivering high-energy photon or electron beams to a patient's tumor using a Linear Accelerator.  Treatment types include:

• Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS)
• Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)
• Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
• Image guided radiation therapy (IGRT)
• 3D conformal radiation therapy
• Superficial 2D electron radiation therapy

Brachytherapy (internal radiation therapy)
Brachytherapy is a procedure where radioactive materials are implanted inside, next to, or directly on the tumor and emit a prescribed dose of radiation.

Treatment types include:

• Mammosites
• Vaginal cylinders
• Tandem and ovoids
• Leipzig

Edge
The Varian Truebeam Edge Linear Accelerator is a radiosurgery system that offers cancer treatment solutions with advanced technology and capabilities – all optimized for radiosurgery. High precision and integrated machine intelligence provide an advanced, non-invasive option to treat more patients with greater confidence.

ARIA®
ARIA®, a Varian product, is an oncology information system that manages patient data.  It also communicates directly to the Varian Edge.  NSMC currently has upgraded to the latest version of the system, ARIA v. 16.  

AlignRT® 
AlignRT® is a VisionRT system that tracks a patient’s position before and during radiation therapy, to aid in setup and treatment accuracy.

Nucletron 
An Elekta product, the Nucletron system ensures precise brachytherapy treatments.
