General Surgery Services at North Shore Medical Center

Hybrid Operating Room

Our newest operating room is a hybrid suite that combines some of the latest surgical technology with the most sophisticated imaging capabilities. This allows vascular surgery patients to receive multiple levels of care within a single operating room.

The new Hybrid Operating Room/Vascular Suite is equipped with advanced imaging systems, an angiography system, and several high-definition flat-screen monitors needed for minimally invasive techniques. Our surgeons now have the ability to perform traditional open surgeries and minimally invasive endovascular procedures on the same patient, at the same time, in the same place without having to move the patient.

Patient benefits may include:

  • Shorter procedure times
  • Much less radiation used during imaging
  • Reduced need for ICU care
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Faster recovery
  • Mostly outpatient (same-day procedures)

Some of the procedures include:

  • Carotid stenting
  • Thoracic aorta stent graft (TEVAR)
  • Endovascular repair of aorta-iliac occlusions/stenosis
  • Endovascular AAA repair (EVAR)
  • Angioplasty and stenting of leg arteries (above and below the knee)
  • Removing clot from leg veins
  • Renal (kidney) artery and visceral artery angioplasty and stenting

Open surgical bypasses

  • Fem - Pop
  • Aorto – Femoral
  • Axillo – Femoral
  • Carotid Endarterectomies
  • Open AAA repair

Robotic Surgery

Our sophisticated da Vinci® HD Robotic Surgical System is designed to offer enhanced precision, control, and access to hard-to-reach areas, allowing for many operations to be performed through just a few tiny incisions. Some operations may be performed with Single-Site technology through one tiny incision in the belly button. This minimally invasive alternative to both open surgery and laparoscopy offers some potential benefits that may include:

  • Small incisions or a single incision
  • Less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Faster recovery
  • Less scarring
